Every year, Stromenti organise a series of concerts at St Clements Church, St Clements Road, Boscombe, one of Bournemouth's finest grade 1 listed buildings. Immortalised in John Betjeman's poetry , it is famous for its rare rood screen and enhancing acoustics. Disabled free entry Ample free parking Refreshments served at the interval. Church is heated. New comfortable seating Concerts are known for their accessibility where the works are introduced by the musicians. Doug Eyre, former Mayor of Bournemouth and Chair of the Bournemouth Partnership, is now Music at St Clements' Honorary President. 2010 is the Bournemouth Bicentenary and St Clements is honoured to be invited by the Bicentenary Committee of Bournemouth Borough Council to stage a celebration concert series featuring the talent and cultural heritage of Bournemouth. The congregation of St Clements Church generously assist with these concerts. Tuesday 27th April 7.30pm Canford School String Ensemble with Coda Fiddle Orchestra, directed by Fiona McKinley, Head of string teaching at Canford School. English music by Elgar, Parry, Warlock, Paul Coles, (in aid of church music) Attended by the Mayor. Thursday 6th May 8pm Stromenti String Quartet plays Franck Leprince's film, TV, and popular classical arrangements. Bournemouth Rotary concert (in aid of church music) Sponsored by Poole Audi Thursday 27th May 7.30pm Jack Maguire 60th birthday concert. "More magic of the violin". Schindlers List, Tangos, Paganini. Free concert Tuesday 7th September 7.30pm Baroque music and Charles Hubert Parry with David Warwick (organ), and Fiona McKinley (solo violin). Albinoni Adagio, Vivaldi-Mistowsky Concerto, Handel Concerti Grossi. Parry was born in Bournemouth and composed the famous "Jerusalem" Hymn sung at the Last Night of the Proms. The Albinoni was used as the theme music for "Butterflies" television series. The Vivaldi is a great showpice for solo violin and ensemble. Saturday September 11th 10-5 English Heritage Open Day. Live music all day. Coda Fiddle Orchestra 10am. Free event. This fine grade 1 listed building immortalized in John Betjeman's writings, opens its doors to the public. Great views from the tower. Sunday 12th September 3.30pm British Baroque violin sonatas with Jack Maguire and David Warwick, Harpsichord. Handel, Foulis, Purcell. Baroque composers portrait exhibition talk by Denis May. Muriel Brown, collecter of the Scottish composer's sonatas will introduce the works. They sound remarkably similar to the music of Boyce. Denis has an amazing insight into the mind of these composers through his portraiture. Well worth a visit to the exhibition any time after September 6th. Sunday 19th September 3.30pm Adult winners of Bournemouth Music Festival with Stromenti. Guest singer Francesca Romana-Saracino. Bach arias from Mass in B minor and Matthew Passion. Sponsored by Mavis Hammond and Richard Gilbert-Johnson Francesca, a local singer, is a prize wininng student at Birmingham Conservatoire and has a remarkable voice. The obligato violin solos in the Bach arias will be played by Jack Maguire, Stromenti director. Sunday October 10th 3.30pm Dorset County Orchestra, conductor Ian Pillow, solo violin Jack Maguire. Bloch Baal Shem Suite, Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique. The Bloch has not been performed in Bournemouth for more that 20 years. It is a quintessentially Jewish work celebrating the religious chants from the Synagogue. Ian Pillow is known to his audiences as a conductor of the BSO "Rusty Musicians" project. www.dorsetcountyorchestra.org.uk Sunday 7th November 3.30pm Under 19s winners of Bournemouth Music Festival with Stromenti sponsored by Princecroft Willis. This will be an exciting concert showcasing local young talent. We are hoping to perform Elgar Serenade for Strings and Vivaldi Four Seasons with these extraordinary youngsters. Many established musicians such as Natalie Klein have passed through the BMF. Saturday 11th December 11.15 am Coda Fiddle Orchestra Xmas concert. Free concert The CFO is a group of young violinists who meet to perform folik music and popular classics. No child is excluded due to inability to pay. It is funded by charities, including Bournemouth Rotary. Some children benefit from scholarships funded by named individuals. Saturday 22nd January. Burns Night ceilidh at the Church hall in aid of Coda Fiddle orchestra with live music played by CFO.
